Ray Sandoval
Guitarist and Composer
Ray Sandoval has performed internationally in Mexico, Indonesia, Japan, Europe and the United States. His unique compositions encompass Indonesian gamelan, Latin American Folk Music and American Jazz. Living in various countries has given him the unique insight into his style of playing and composing.
Born in Arizona, he started playing with LA jazz greats Larry Koonse, Derek Oles and Miroslav Tadic at CalArts in Los Angeles, California. After touring with the grammy award winning band Quetzal and Los Lobos, he received the JUSFC Creative Artist Grant in 2004. He performed with Shakuhachi master Hozan Yamamoto during that same year. Recently he composed music for a short documentary about the refugee crisis in Europe with installation artist Ai Weiwei. This work titled, Laundromat, was premiered in New York City in 2016.
Since moving from the states nearly twenty years ago, Ray's home has been in Tokyo, London, Berlin and Valencia, Spain where he now continues to compose and produce music.
Garry Jackson
Bass
Garry began studying double bass at the age of eight, starting bass guitar at 14. He moved to the north of England in 1997 to study at Leeds College of Music and was awarded the Fred and Ethel Tolsen Memorial prize for strings.
Shortly after in 2001 he was offered a teaching position at Leeds Conservatoire (formerly Leeds College of Music, where he was a faculty member until 2022.
Garry has worked and taught in a variety of styles, having lectured in double bass and bass guitar, theory, aural and led numerous ensemble classes. He has led workshops and master classes throughout the UK and has also taught for the University of Leeds and Leeds Young Musicians. Garry taught within most areas of Leeds Conservatoire’s varied curriculums, during his 23 years as a staff member.
In 1996 he was awarded a bursary from The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation. He used this bursary to study with world renowned bassist Herbie Flowers (David Bowie, Lou Reed, T Rex, George Harrison).
He has appeared at numerous music festivals including Glastonbury, Leeds/Reading Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Hull Jazz Festival, Cleethorpes Jazz Festival, Marsden Jazz Festival, Scarborough Jazz Festival and Leeds Big City Jazz Festival.
Genís Bagés Rubí
Drums
Genís Bagés (Lleida, 1987) is a drummer and sound artist with a long career on the national and international scene.
He has shared the stage with musicians such as Marco Mezquida, David Mengual, David Soler and Arecio Smith. After obtaining a higher degree in jazz at ESMUC and studying for a year at the Vienna Konservatorium (Austria), he moved to Berlin where he was an active part of the city's music scene for two years.
He currently lives between Lleida and Barcelona, taking part in different projects in the fields of rock, jazz and free improvisation
